Reflections on the 10 Day Yoga Training Intensive

The yoga course totally exceeded my expectations both on a practical level, as the teaching was so grounded and focused on training us to be safe yoga teachers and, on a spiritual level as I discovered a sense of community at the yoga centre that I never expected to find. Making time for class

We live in a time hungry world. Each day filled with time dependent activity starting from the moment we wake to the second we retire, each event pushing into the next with monotonous regularity. It’s said that despite the onset of amazingly clever technology, many of us are working longer than ever before, and filling our day with ever increasing activity, leaving less time than ever for time ‘out’. When was the last time you felt time stand still? Perhaps it was during a yoga class, when the mind and body has the opportunity for stillness, allowing you to engage with the space around you. In a perhaps strange but powerful way, you were totally present, free of the distractions of life which keep dragging us back to that sense of time, tied to our past and future.

Bringing back the balance

Have you ever found yourself saying “I wish I had more time to do that”? Do the hours, days and weeks in your life appear to be slipping by so fast you wonder where’s the time ‘gone’? Perhaps you’ve asked yourself at some time of your life, the “What am I doing with my life?” question! Fair question, that! In yoga practice, a key principle is adopting an attitude of acceptance, of everything that is, rather than what could be.

5 Questions to Ask Before Making the Transition to Yoga Teaching

April 22nd, 2008 Posted in Yoga Teacher Perspectives | 5 Comments »

Written by: John Ogilvie

As any yoga fan knows, it’s very easy to become passionate about yoga. For many, this translates into a desire to become a yoga teacher, however, the transition from yogi or yogini to yoga teacher is a commitment not to be taken lightly. For some, it can even lead to a reduced passion for yoga, simply because the demands of teaching yoga are so much greater than the demands of simply ‘doing’ yoga.

Yoga teacher training challenging but fulfilling

March 15th, 2008 Posted in DURING Yoga Teacher Training | No Comments »

So far, I am finding the yoga teacher training course a lot more personally challenging than I expected – this is not a bad thing, as I am sure it will lead to significant personal growth. I feel that the course adequately provides the framework, information and environment for me to learn and grow, and it’s up to me to apply myself and make a determined effort to achieve everything I hope for. At the half way point of the course, I have made some progress but have come nowhere near achieving what I am capable of.

In some ways the Level 1 Yoga Teacher Training course modules have exceeded my expectations. I did not think that we would be teaching yoga so early on and I am amazed at the proficiency with which my colleagues are already teaching and how much progress they have made.

Yoga Teaching – A Tool for Helping Others

March 15th, 2008 Posted in BEFORE Yoga Teacher Training | 1 Comment »

Written by: Mat S

I am doing this yoga certification course because I want to be a yoga teacher. I see the course as a great opportunity to learn new skills to take me on to a new stage of my life. I see yoga as a suitable vehicle for me, to learn the step by step process in life to get to where you want to go, being conscious of the small steps and journey, rather than aiming and going straight to the goal.

My experiences in yoga have shown me how to relax, how to de-stress, how to come back into the moment and I see it as a great tool for the people everywhere to try and experience a moment of stillness.

I want to first help myself – then help others and yoga is another tool for helping.

I am English, 32 and left home when I was 18 for a “short” yacht delivery. I found my way to the Mediterranean and was introduced the super yacht industry. Since then I have worked on my different kinds of yachts around the world and put myself through all the courses and things needed to hold a Class 4 Commercial Captain’s license to 3000t and a dive instructor’s license.

Multitude of Reasons for Yoga Teacher Training and Accreditation

March 15th, 2008 Posted in BEFORE Yoga Teacher Training | No Comments »

Written by: Margi G

There are a number of reasons why I have chosen to undertake this yoga teacher training course and attain my yoga teacher accreditation.

Firstly I would like to develop a strong foundation in my understanding of the practice of the asanas.

Over many years of practicing yoga I have been subject to a number of teachers and different methods of teaching. As is common practice, I have been adjusted often however not always with insight and gentle spirit and often as a result of incompetent instructions given in regard to entering the pose – as a result I often hold tension when I am practicing because I am not sure if I am doing it correctly.

Passion for Sharing Yoga

March 15th, 2008 Posted in BEFORE Yoga Teacher Training | No Comments »

Written by: Jodie F

I love yoga – it fascinates me and makes me feel amazing. I believe yoga should be a part of day to day life for everybody.  The world would be such a different place if we all did yoga which is why I’ve taken on the Level One Yoga Instructor Training Course.

Yoga connects me to the universe and God and gives me inner peace, harmony and clarity. My number 1 goal is to be to be a compassionate but wonderful yoga instructor so I can share the beautiful yoga experience have with young and old. I would like to bring yoga into all schools, youth centers, martial-arts schools, retirement villages, etc. eventually to have my own wellness centre.

This yoga instructor training course is also a fantastic opportunity to deepen my personal experience with yoga to learn as much as I can and to be the absolute best I can be.
